Dr Nic Makoha is a Ugandan poet and playwright based in London and founder of the Obsidian Foundation. His new collection, The New Carthaginians,will be published in 2025 by Penguin Books. His poetry has been published in The New York Times, Poetry Review, Rialto, Poetry London, Triquarterly Review, Boston Review, Callaloo, and Wasafiri. He won the 2015 Brunel International African Poetry Prize, the 2021 Ivan Juritz Prize and the Poetry London Prize. In 2017, his debut collection, Kingdom of Gravity, was shortlisted for the Felix Dennis Prize.
