Born and based in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, the Canadian poet, novelist, artist, and Ashiq blends poetry, orality, music and multimedia around themes of African diasporic identity, Sufi spirituality and the resistance of Western values. Her books include the novels Livre des Ailes and Book of Wings, and poetry collections Nouveau Griot and Bothism. She has an extensive history of vocal performance, audio recordings and films, including the Afrofuturist concert film CYANO SUN SUSUITE, and her work has been staged at several festivals across the globe. She was president of the Quebec Writers’ Federation and is the 2025 Poet Ambassador in Residence at the League of Canadian Poets.
