Susanna L. Sacks is assistant professor of English at Howard University, where she teaches courses in contemporary poetry, digital cultures, and Afro-diasporic literatures. Her research investigates the relationship between global funding structures, digital media platforms, and literary form in Africa. Her first book, Networked Poetics: African Poetry’s Digital Turn (UMass Press, 2024) argues that the rise of social media platforms catalyzed a transformation in the production of cultural capital in southern Africa. Her current book project, A World of Debt: African Literature in the Wake of Structural Adjustment, examines the role of debt in the cultural imaginary, and argues, in a world system dominated by market logics, that writers’ collectives and theater workshops offer alternative models of relation and value.
