Ongezwa Mbele

Ongezwa Mbele

South Africa

Ongezwa Mbele is a poet, storyteller, theatre-maker, and researcher. She is currently a Drama and Performance lecturer at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal and a PhD candidate at the University of Cape Town. Her theatre, poetry and storytelling abilities and ventures are centred in working with young people and children. Her poem, The Ocean and Earth Are my teachers was published in the anthology, Voices unbound poems of the eighth international symposium on poetic enquiry curated by Heidi van Rooyen. She was the guest editor of the Imbiza: Journal for African Writing, Poetry Africa edition published in 2021. In 2018, Twisting of the tongues was published in Disrupting Denial: Analysing narratives of the denial of invisible and visible trauma, which is “an anthology of familiar stories, a teaching tool, a research map, a research report, and an adaptable outline plan of action.
