Akabiru is a Lisbon based artist, working primarily with music based on influences from electronic to the traditional sounds of his origins in both Angola and Guinea Bissau. Defying a standardised classification and always willing to explore new mediums, he has recently incorporated cinema as a means of expression, adding a cinematic dimension to his music and enhanced by the poetry of his lyrics. He has extensive educational experience, facilitating workshops for children and young adults. He has participated in TEDx Mindelo & TEDx Luanda and is currently the Ambassador of the Poetry Slam of Guinea-Bissau, for CASP (Cup of African Poetry Slam). As a Director of Cinematography his debut short film PULSO was selected for the festival of Black cinema in Brazil, the Zózimo Bulbul 15th edition (2022).
