Mercy Dhliwayo

Mercy Dhliwayo is a creative writer, poet, and hip-hop artist who goes by the stage name Sista X. A human rights advocate at heart, she uses her art as a form of advocacy and resistance. Her debut short story collection, Bringing Us Back was the recipient of the 2022 Zimbabwean National Art Merit Award for Outstanding First Creative Published Work. Her writing has also been featured in local, regional, and international publications such as Karavan Magazine, East Jasmine Review, New Contrast, FEMRITE’s, Nothing to see here, Poetry Potion, and Mosi Oa Tunya Review, amongst others.  In 2019 she released her debut hip-hop and spoken word album, The X A-Gender.  She is also the founding member of the Slam Emporium Polokwane, an organization that grants a platform for performance and creative growth in Polokwane and its surrounding areas.
