Dr Danai Mupotsa is a feminist teacher, researcher and published poet. She works at Wits University as a senior lecturer in African Literature, having completed her Ph.D. there with a fellowship from the History Workshop.
She is a 2020 Atlantic Fellow and is the author of “feeling and ugly” (impepho press 2018). Over the last few years, her work has involved interrogating questions of justice and pedagogy. She is reflecting on what and how she teaches, how people learn, and how justice is tuned into every aspect of those relations. Teaching for her means producing the conditions through which those participating in them can learn to feel a concrete sense of authority about what they feel and know, even while grasping an excitement about what they are learning.
Dr Mupotsa wants to participate in classrooms where love and freedom and justice are densely articulated as objectives, as much as the syllabus. She is a mum, to the most incredible 12-year-old going on 30.
