Who Holds The Space? | Webinar

“When you have more than you need, build a longer table – not a higher fence.” – Anonymous

In recent years, an exciting and necessary discourse has begun to emerge around public and workplace cultures that are inclusive and diverse; cultures that make space at the table for those who have previously been excluded. The concept of allyship has grown in tandem with that, in terms of thinking through how you hold space for others when you have a seat at the table.

The poets who are participating in this dialogue are masters of their creative practice, with a massive platform for their voices to be heard. They have chosen to use their voices to hold space for the dead and restless, for the indigene’s paradigm, for the communities that sit on the margins of society, and more.

Phillipa Yaa de Villiers will guide us through the ways in which these poets have been able to hold space, the power dynamics involved, and what that act and politics of representation has meant for their personhood and their poetry.

Moderator: Phillippa Yaa De Villiers
Panellists: Mana Bugallo (Argentina), Diana Ferrus, vangile gantsho
