We’re Not Ghosting You | 26th Poetry Africa Festival Official Opening Online
In March 2020, when South Africa was plunged into a hard lockdown, people were confined to their homes. Arts venues across the country echoed the silencing of public activity, becoming akin to a ghost town. We did, however, remain connected to each other and to the world, through the internet, computers and smartphones. This enabled us to bring Poetry Africa onto the online space. We adapted, and the show went on.
We are excited to announce that the 26th Poetry Africa Festival is building on, rather than abandoning, the experience that the Centre for Creative Arts has garnered in the digi-sphere over the last two years. This year, live performances, panel discussions, lectures and workshops will be streamed on the CCA’s Facebook Page and YouTube Channel, and an online programme of poetry readings, webinars and lectures will be hosted on Zoom.
Join us for the official opening of both the live and online programmes, which will run concurrently from 10 – 16 October. Steady yourself for a call to action by the heroic Diana Ferrus and 5 poets from the five regions of Africa, as they respond to this year’s theme | Poetic (In)Justice: Voices That Breathe, Move and Transform. Take up the chance to see, hear from and acknowledge the diverse grouping of people who have made this pioneering staging of the Poetry Africa Festival possible.
Poets: Dagga Tolar (Nigeria), Diana Ferrus, Xabiso Villi, Q Malewezi (Malawi), Julie Nxadi, Ada Lulonga (Democratic Republic of Congo), K. Eltinaé (Sudan), Lydol (Cameroon)
