23rd Poetry Africa Schools Writing Competition
The Centre for Creative Arts (University of KwaZulu-Natal), with principal funding from the eThekwini Municipality invites school learners to submit poems as part of the of the 23rd Poetry Africa Schools Competition. The Poetry Africa festival, now in its 23rd edition, takes place from 07 to 12 October 2019.
Poetry Africa is committed to nurturing a culture of reading and writing poetry, especially among the youth of KwaZulu-Natal. The festival invites primary and high school learners to take up this exciting opportunity of submitting material for the poetry competition.
Poems can be written in either English or Zulu on any topic, giving budding poets license to be creative. The Festival will accept up to two poems per learner.
All submissions must have the following information on the front page: full name and surname, school name, school contact details (email/ phone/ address). All pages submitted must be numbered.
Poems must be submitted either by hand at the Centre for Creative Arts (CCA), UKZN, Howard College Campus, Mazisi Kunene Avenue, Glenwood, Durban, 4001 or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline date is 13 September 2019.
Winners will be given the opportunity to read their poems on the main stage of the Poetry Africa festival. Prizes will be awarded by Adams Booksellers and the Centre for Creative Arts (UKZN).
